Klantcase Van Woerden Flevo BV – A sustainable step forward in our carrot processing
We are an organic farming and processing company with over 400 hectares of land. As pioneers in Flevoland (NL), we started in the 1960s and began pioneering organic farming in 1994. Now, in 2026, as the third generation, we have a deep belief in the experiences of the past. Combining our roots in sustainability with the latest innovations, we exclusively grow a variety of organic crops in Eastern Flevoland.

At our processing facility Fresh Organic, we focus on washing, sorting and packaging organic potatoes and carrots for the retail market. Harvesting in the morning means washing, sorting and packaging on the same day. This is a huge advantage for our customers, who are always guaranteed a freshly harvested product. In line with our cultivation practices, we only use organic products, which makes us unique.
In 2018, we started processing our products, initially with second-hand machines. Over the years, we have expanded the line, including two optical sorting machines. This led to a desire to increase our washing capacity. Ultimately, we decided to replace the old washing drum with a 5-metre by 1.60-metre drum from Van Dijke Groep.
For us, it was a logical choice: the new drum was the same length as our old one, so no major reconstruction was necessary. The larger diameter provides more capacity and the water-saving design fits in perfectly with our vision of sustainable business. Because we grow on different types of soil – from sand to sea clay – it was also important that the drum is flexible and can cope well everywhere.
After our initial meeting at the fruit and vegetable trade fair in Berlin, Marco Geense from Van Dijke Groep worked with us to develop a plan for the drum. Following several visits to the factory, discussions with fellow processors and a day spent at the drawing board, a practical and well-thought-out design was ready. Even the existing platform could be retained – a clever piece of measuring work!
We are very satisfied with the entire process: from the initial discussions to the final installation. The collaboration with Van Dijke Group was pleasant and professional. Their input and craftsmanship have resulted in a solution that fits our business operations perfectly. Thanks to the new drum, we can work more efficiently while continuing to follow our sustainability policy.
